The most common argument against trigger warnings and stuff like that on tumblr is something like “tumblr is offended by literally everything” or "you don’t get TWs in real life"
Well, first of all, yeah you do, have you not seen movie recently
And secondly the key difference between irl and online environments is that online you can pick and choose what you see and who you interact with and how comfortable you feel with a much higher degree of freedom. In real life you’re gonna have to deal with things and people that make you uncomfortable and nobody denies that. It’s just that people like to have a safe place where they DON’T have to deal with stuff that triggers their PTSD or things that they just don’t like and that is entirely reasonable
Tumblr also happens to have a system that makes this kind of personalized censorship possible. Believe me, people being sensitive to flashy lights and blood and racism are not new developments exclusive to poor lil’ offended tumblr
Basically what I’m saying is that everyone deserves to be happy and comfortable online because online life doesn’t have to be as harsh and smelly as reality is. That’s why it’s cool to be nice to a pal and consider a pal’s feelings because that’s what nice people do. Do you feel it. Do you feel me here
